I am officially 2 weeks postpartum and feeling a variety of emotions as I breastfeed for the third time. To put things into perspective, all three of my pregnancies have been very different. With my first pregnancy, this was about the time I stopped breastfeeding and ended up pumping full time for over a year. With my second pregnancy, around the 2-week mark, things started getting easier. This time around I’m starting to get the hang of this and my breast-feeding adventure is headed in a positive direction.
If I am being honest… breastfeeding is NOT my favorite part of having a baby. Every single pregnancy has left me feeling slightly overwhelmed, underprepared, and having to deal with a lot of physical pain for the first few weeks. I am not sharing this to scare anyone, but because I wish someone would have told me how hard and uncomfortable breastfeeding would be at first. I wish I had known there would be an adjustment period and that I wasn’t alone in this experience. That would have made all the difference. This is my mom truth… admitting that breastfeeding didn't come easy to me, and even with my third baby, it is probably my biggest struggle. Just like any journey, I am figuring it out! But to be honest, breastfeeding has brought me to tears at least once with all three of my babies.
So, when Motherhood Maternity invited me to an event in their Englewood, Colorado store to kick off National Breast-Feeding Month and asked me to share my mom truths I said yes without hesitation. I truly believe embracing the ups and downs is so valuable and creating a community of acceptance and inclusion is super important in regard to the journey of Motherhood.
Motherhood Maternity hosted an amazing event in their store at the Centennial Promenade on August 6th. They partnered with pumpspotting, an app that creates community by bringing together nursing and pumping moms to share their journey’s as new moms. Pumpspotting is currently touring the United States on a decked out, 40 foot RV that’s completely outfitted as a pumpsuite, and for Denver area moms, the RV was parked outside of the store for the day! Amy, the founder of pumpspotting was on-site and offered and support and education on breast feeding and pumping!
For me, one of the highlights of this event was actually getting fitted for a nursing bra and trying out Motherhood Maternity’s award-winning Maternity and Nursing Bra, known as the Seamless Bra! For perspective, before I was fitted for a real nursing bra I was wearing any bra or sports bra I had on hand, and never put any effort into finding the *perfect* nursing bra.
I had tried and reviewed a few nursing bras but didn’t find a bra that I loved nursing in. When I arrived at the event, I was wearing a $10 nursing bra I had bought just to get by for the first couple of weeks after Harper was born and let me tell you… it was not cutting it.
The Motherhood Maternity Seamless bra was amazing, and this is truly a bra I will be living in during my breastfeeding journey! Did you know that lactating breasts can be up to 35% heavier than the average breast? Besides celebrating National Breast-Feeding Month, Motherhood Maternity is celebrating the 5-year anniversary of their Seamless Bra which has over 500, five-star reviews, and has five solutions to common nursing bra complaints including… support, comfort, one-handed access, fit flexibility, and leak protection!
So yes, I am still trying to figure out breastfeeding and the journey that comes along with it. I am 2 weeks into figuring out mothering 3 babies, and 2 weeks into trying to remember what it was like to sleep. I am also now 3 days into wearing the most comfortable nursing bra I have ever tried and while it cannot solve all of my problems, it has made this transition into nursing so much more comfortable.
Oh! Also, while I was at Destination Maternity I was able to try on a few pieces and go on a little shopping spree to check out their latest and greatest nursing apparel!
At least for me, the immediate postpartum days are an adjustment period to accepting my body for what it is as how it changes day after day. I was very hesitant to try on clothes during my visit, but I have to say that everything I tried on was made for my postpartum body! I was most surprised that their bounceback jeans were phenomenal and perfect for my ever changing body. You can check out the pieces which I’ve linked below- from my favorite seamless nursing bra to the amazing postpartum jeans.

There were so many other pieces I tried on that were so cute and after looking back, I honestly wish I had shopped at Motherhood Maternity when I was pregnant, as I would have been more confident and comfortable with my growing body! Also, so many of the pieces I tried on were maternity but totally worked postpartum and were nursing friendly too!
So that is my mom truth for today, I will be sharing more in-depth about breastfeeding later on but for now, if you want more mom truths Motherhood Maternity did a four-part series on mom truths and you can find part one HERE and part two HERE!
