Baby number three is coming literally any day now and even though I have been nesting like crazy I really haven’t done that much as far as shopping or preparing. Actually we just installed a carseat yesterday and I am 37 weeks pregnant so by “we have done almost nothing" I mean we have kept it super minimal this time… and a little bit last minute. When I was pregnant with Jessamyn I am pretty sure I spent the entire pregnancy stocking up on everything I could possibly find baby related only to realize after she was born I didn’t even need half of it and probably went overboard. With Ophelia I got that a bit more under control and this time feel like I have really narrowed down what I actually need for life with a new baby. I have had a few people reach out to me on instagram asking about my baby essentials and so I thought it would be useful to put together a list of the things I absolutely must have regardless of whether it is your first or fourth baby. These are the items I can’t live without and would give to every pregnant woman if I could because I seriously swear by them.. and actually we were planning on being done after Ophelia and I KEPT these things (but gave away just about everything else) because I knew if we did have a third I wanted these items for the baby.
** This post is sponsored by Aeroflow Breastpumps but these are my honest thoughts and I was really excited to partner with them on this and this with you!
Essential Number One -
A good breast pump! If you have followed me for a while you may know Jessamyn never latched and so I pumped exclusively for over a year and without a good breast pump would not have been able to do that. In fact in that year I burned through three breast pumps and learned just how truly expensive they really are. With Ophelia I didn’t have to pump much because she was totally into breastfeeding BUT I knew I wanted to have a pump available because it was so crucial for Jessamyn and with this third pregnancy I 100% have a breast pump and supplies ready to go and would recommend this for any mama regardless of whether it is your first or fifth baby.
This is where Aeroflow Breastpumps comes in, they specialize in helping moms get breast pumps and actually take care of the entire process (they also can help with pregnancy supplies like bellybands and compression socks). Aeroflow Breastpumps has a form which you can find HERE that helps you actually qualify for a breast pump through your insurance and they really do take care of the rest. They also carry supplies for pumping including milk storage bags, nursing pad, cleaning supplies, and even hands-free pumping bras which I think is awesome because as a fist time mom trying to navigate the world of pumping I felt super lost and didn’t even know where to start and a resource like this would have been amazing. Even now with my third I feel like the breast pumps and the supplies to make it easier keep changing and having a resource that has everything in one place is so useful and so beneficial as far as making pumping easier.
This time around I am trying the Lansinoh Smartpump and am really excited about it. Like really this pump is so cool… it has two-phase technology that mimics a baby’s natural feeding pattern (to maximize milk expression), three custom pumping styles and levels of suction, and can sync with your phone to help you track your pumping schedule… and it is super light weight and easy to carry around which is always a bonus with a pump. (like seriously I remember carrying my bulky, heavy pump through multiple airports with Jessamyn and finding it so awkward and annoying). So basically pumps have come a long way since I had Jessamyn 4 years ago and I am really excited t0 try this one out and see how it does!
Essential Number Two -
A good bassinet and baby lounger! Having moved a lot with each baby we have never really used a crib but what we have used is a bassinet and a baby lounger. The bassinet is perfect for small spaces, we have our set up next to our bed which worked really well with Ophelia and I plan on doing that set up this time too. I used a stand with the bassinet last time but don’t have one this time and just plan on using the bassinet next to the bed as is. You can find the one I have HERE. I also use it just as a cute basket to store things once the baby out grows it so totally a win-win as far as a baby product that can serve a purpose once they are out of the baby phase. Also a good baby lounger this something I use during the day just as a safe place to put the baby down. Ophelia loved it and actually still uses the toddler version daily and I would give this to every new mama if I could because they are seriously amazing. You can find the baby lounger we have HERE! Both the cover and the lounger are washable and yeah that is basically the best and has made this a complete essential for me this time around. I saved both of these items from when we had Ophelia and will probably save them after this baby maybe to pass on to the girls if they ever have kids of their own because they are such good products and so useful.
Essential Number Three -
A good baby carrier! I seriously underestimated this with Jessamyn and because of it carried her in a lot of crazy positions and carriers that just were not a good fit for me (or my back). With Ophelia I tried out probably a good 7 or 8 carriers and found two (a ring sling and another clip on carrier) that we use all the time. For me I like having a ring sling to use when they are super tiny because it keeps them close and is easy to put on and take off BUT love a more traditional clip on carrier when they are a bit older and we have used ours for hiking and traveling and even Ben agrees that the carriers I have linked here are the best we have tried and what we plan on using with baby number three as well. Obviously everyone’s needs are different when it comes to a baby carrier so do go and try out a few and don’t worry if you don’t find one you love right away BUT if you do want to try the one’s we are using you can find them HERE and HERE! Also for me both carriers I own are linen because I love how breathable linen is and easy to wipe off and keep clean looking which with babies is always something to consider because at least for me I put a lot of wear and tear into our carriers!
Okay! Well that is it ( I told you I was keeping it minimal) those are the essentials for our third baby that I don’t think I could do this without. Obviously there are so many other things you do need for a baby (diapers, clothing, bottles, etc.) but these are the items I swear by and have hung on to with all of my babies! Also if you didn’t click above and want to check out Aeroflow Breastpumps you can click HERE! They really do have so many amazing resources for women and even if you aren’t looking for a breast pump definitely go take a look at what they have to offer as the pregnancy and postpartum resources they have available are really awesome and something I wish I had known about with all of my pregnancies! AND if you have any essentials please leave them in the comments below! I am always looking for good baby products and would really love to hear your essentials too!
