Okay this probably should have been like a “ New Year Resolution” post but since it is now February I am just going to call it the “5 things I am changing now” because honestly January was a blur and here we are in February just now picking up the pieces and figuring out what this year is going to look like. If you too are walking into February wondering what happened and how in the world the year has already started to slip by know you aren’t alone and feel free to join me in pretending January didn’t happen and that it is totally acceptable to make your resolutions in February! Oh! I should also mention this post is sponsored by Grove Collaborative but seeing as it is now February and not January I can safely say all these thoughts are completely my own and these are my current plans and hopes to make some changes and walk through the rest of the year more organized and with more intention!
5 Things I am Changing This Year:
I am going to be more intentional with what I throw away - I know everyone is on board with the decluttering thing this year but honestly I couldn’t get into it. What I could get into was that our trash service suddenly stopped showing up in January and for over three weeks now we have had to carefully move our trash all around the garage and try to live life surrounded by basically everything we threw away in the month of January. It has been really eye opening and made me realize we generate a lot of waste and I would like to cut down on that. SO my current goal is to try to be more aware of what I am throwing away, recycle, compost, donate, do whatever I can to keep our trash levels down while still getting rid of the clutter in our lives.
I am going to use more green products while also staying within our budget - One thing I was really bad at last year was staying in our budget especially when it comes to the products we use around the house. We do try to be as neutral as possible with the products we use and that has been amazing but also sometimes hard on the budget. I recently started using Grove for all our home care product needs and it has been such a positive switch. The products are brands I was already familiar with and the savings have been awesome. They not only have cleaning products but personal toiletries and vitamins and even toilet paper and reusable baggies for storing food… I was super impressed. If you want to try them out for yourself you can click HERE. This will get you a free cleaning concentrates bundle with a minimum purchase of 20 dollars and that includes a glass spray bottle, cleaning caddy, sponges, and concentrates to use with that glass bottle. I love that Grove allows me to meet this goal as well as help with my first goal of being more intentional about what I throw away because with the concentrates you aren’t throwing out a ton of plastic every time you go through a bottle and they have so many other products that can help you reduce your waste as well.
3. I am going to keep a food budget - This is a constant struggle for our family… like it is embarrassing how much money we spend on groceries and eating out every month. SO I’ve decided we are going to change that and after a lot of research think what makes the most sense for us is a meal delivery kit. I have found I spend a lot of money just going to the grocery store and buying more than we need or things off my list. Also we would then eat out a lot and not even use the groceries we had bought which generated a lot of food waste and just waste in general. I am still trying to find the right service for us which if you have any suggestions please comment below but this is something I really think will help our budget and hopefully the quality of food we eat this year as well! This actually ties back into my last goal in that using a food delivery kit and using Grove both of those options keep me out of the grocery store which stops me from buying random things I don’t actually need and allows me to get what I actually want and will use.
4. I am going to spend more time doing free things - By that I mean WE as a family are going to spend more time out side, more time at festivals and local events, and more time just enjoying the community around us. This winter has been really hard as far as the harsh cold conditions and it has made me realize this year I want to embrace the community around us. We are surrounded by national forest, towns that regularly hold all kinds of crazy free festivals and events and I want to be a part of that! I think this will help with the other goals in that we will keep to our budget better if we are out hiking and enjoying the community around us but also I think it is just really healthy and good to get out and explore what is right in front of you.
5. I am going to prioritize quality over quantity - I might have a clear “we need to budget better” theme for this year but I really think that applies to everything. Not that we are in debt, or have any financial issues but more I think it is important to be careful with what you have and live well within that. SO really all my goals tie into this… this year is going to be about quality. The quality of what we do, buy, eat, throw away, and experience. I want this year to be a year full of quality experiences rather than just a large quantity of things that might be still good but aren’t necessarily as good as they could be.
SO that is my list! These are the changes we are making… mostly it is about being more intentional about life. It is about buying clean products, not generating as much waste, and living more in the community around us. If you have any tips or suggestions on how I could do this better please let me know! If you have a meal kit suggestion or food budget tips I would love those AND again if you want to try out Grove for yourself you can do so by clicking HERE!
