Okay I have to confess we have seriously overlooked Boulder Colorado. When Ben and I were dating we went and walked around a few times but never gave this city the attention it deserves! This past weekend we went and spent a few days exploring Boulder with the girls and it was so much fun! I grossly underestimated the charm of this city and now kind of consider it the Portland Oregon of Colorado (or at least that is what it reminded me of). I had a few people who watched my Instagram stories from our trip ask for recommendations on what to do in Boulder SO here is all the things we did and my general thoughts on them. We loved Boulder and will be back so if you have any recommendations of your own or questions about anywhere we went please, please, please comment below!
Lodging: We stayed at the Hotel Boulderado and they did actually invite us to come stay with them and experience there hotel… BUT this is my honest review and thoughts. The hotel is within walking distance of Pearl Street and SO many restaurants which we loved! I don’t think we actually used our car once the whole weekend because the hotel is so conveniently located. We checked in and were immediately impressed by the historical lobby and the friendly service. The hotel does have historic rooms which were gorgeous and had the prettiest wall paper, but the hotel also has a more modern side which is where we stayed. The rooms were spacious and modern but still held on to the historical charm that the rest of the hotel had and we were so impressed. It was almost Halloween so they had all the decorations out and Jessamyn was so excited about all the pumpkins and witches. I think my favorite aspect was that the hotel was nice but not so nice that it was inaccessible.. traveling with the girls I am always a little nervous that we are going to kill the vibe of a place with our loud giggles and well everything that goes along with a three year old and a one year old but we were totally okay and fit in and it was great.
The Hotel Boulderado does have a really amazing restaurant attached to it (that I will talk about later.. and actually there are several but we only ate at one of them) Right now I did want to mention they have what looks like an amazing Thanksgiving Buffet coming up and a Christmas Buffet as well that I think would be so much fun. Ben and I have always talked about doing a holiday in a hotel that had a nice buffet and just relaxing and enjoying the holiday together and I am seriously tempted to go do that at the Hotel Boulderado. They also do holiday tea’s which sounds so fun to me as well! Oh and they host weddings and other events which the prettiest wedding reception was taking place when we arrived.. I feel like the Hotel Boulderado would be such a fun venue to get married at!
Food/Coffee/Tea/Dessert/All the good things -
Spruce Farm & Fish: This restaurant is actually located inside of the Hotel Boulderado AND was amazing. We were a little nervous it wouldn’t be child friendly because the menu looked so good but they were totally prepared for us and there were other kids there which was awesome. The atmosphere is beautiful and calming and really nice. The food was phenomenal which is a word I don’t use often but am using in this case because it totally applies. We went around Brunch time so they had breakfast options but also more traditional lunch options too. They also serve Boxcar Coffee and had fresh pastries so there was literally something for everyone. I took a look at their dinner menu and now I am wishing we could go back because it looked amazing.
Bohemian Biergarten : This restaurant is located literally just one block down from the Hotel Boulderado and was our first stop on our trip. We ordered a sausage platter to share and I am wishing we had ordered two because it was so good but also Jessamyn basically ate all of it. Ben was super impressed by their beer selection and I actually was too. They had a drink that was half beer, half cider, with honey drizzled on top and I am seriously craving it right now. The girls had fun running around and playing with other kids and it is community seating so there was just a good friendly vibe. Oh! And their chocolate cake is seriously amazing… like worst the trip alone.
Rayback Collective: This was one that someone actually recommended on instagram for us to try and I am so glad we did! There are several food trucks set up, a brewery and kombucha on tap inside and it was so good. The atmosphere was super chill, dogs, kids, outdoor games… it was just a good spot to stop for lunch and I would definitely recommend it.
Fate Brewing: Okay I have to confess we didn’t actually go there this time but we are obsessed. We have stopped in here a few times now and every time have been blown away. The menu changes, the beer changes, and the atmosphere is always super inviting. We have honestly never had a bad dish at Fate and if you are looking for lunch or dinner with a good beer I would definitely recommend it.
Wonder: The girls and I stopped here for breakfast the last day and I have a few thoughts. The breakfast was amazing,,, truly amazing. Jessamyn had toast with peanut butter and banana on it and I had avocado toast and got a bottle of juice. It was really good, the quality was perfect… the price tag was a little high so I would say maybe don’t stop in for a full meal if you are on a budget but do stop in for a bottle of juice it will not disappoint. They also had really amazing looking desserts that I didn’t get because it breakfast but I want to go back and try them!
Trident Bookseller & Cafe: SO many people recommended this coffee shop we had to stop! Ben and I both just got a drink but I was impressed with their tea selection and knowledge of all the teas they had. This coffee shop is attached to a bookstore which was really cool and they had a pastry case that looked pretty awesome as well and actually several people said they go to Trident just for the pastries!
SO that was our trip! We didn’t actually do any activities while we were in Boulder other than wander in and out of every shop on Pearl Street and walk around some of the neighborhoods near by and look at all the Halloween decorations. There are tons of good museums though and I have heard the farmers market is really amazing and we have never been so we will definitely be back! Also I assume good hiking? but have to confess we have never really hiked around Boulder so I have no recommendations on that. If you have any good activity suggestions for Boulder or any other food suggestions or questions please comment below! Boulder and the Hotel Boulderado have unexpectedly stolen my heart and we will for sure be back!
