Oh man so I have to confess Ophelia is actually two months old at this point... but I mean so it goes for the second child right? This has been the hardest and most beautiful two months and honestly deep down it has gone way too fast and I kind of want to rewind it and do it all over again. Ophelia has added so much light and character to our family it is amazing to think that 7 pounds of tiny person can have such a beautiful and profound effect on our dynamic. It is also crazy how much sleep deprivation can have a an incredible effect on everything and has literally left me feeling like I am a million miles behind always.
Two months of Ophelia-
From day one she has basically had the same routine: every three hours she eats... all day and all night long. From the moment she was born she just knew how to breast feed which was totally different than Jessamyn so overall this has been a crazy new and wonderful experience. Ophelia sleeps most of the day and initially was up longer at night but really sticks to that every three hours eating and either sleeping between feedings or just staring at us with her sweet little face.
She is a lot more chill than Jessamyn was at this age, I feel like she has a similar fire but also a quite understanding and really only cries when she is in need of something and the moment you show up she stops.
Another major difference between her and Jessamyn is that she is a lot more into cuddling and being held than Jessamyn was. MAYBE it is that when Jessamyn was a baby we were so terrified of ruining her by cuddling that we would intentionally put her down for naps or when she fell asleep but Ophelia sleeps better and longer when she is on one of us or within close proximity. She really thrives on being around others and it might just be that she is our last baby and I am keeping her close at all times and savoring this baby phase but she really is more cuddly and in need of closeness than Jessamyn was at two months.
She is also way more active and has already tried to roll over a few times which is crazy... oh yeah and she smiles, like all the time like from day one which everyone said was just gas but with how often she does it either she is crazy gassy at all times or in my opinion... just an incredibly happy baby.
Things she loves:
- Bath time: she will lay there quietly the entire time and just stare up at you with the calmest little look.
- Breastfeeding: this child would literally breastfeed 24/7 I think if I let her which is nice but also a bit much.
- Seeing Jessamyn: Already she is completely in love with her big sister and will just smile and smile at her like nobody else in the room matters.
Things she Hates:
- Diaper changes: You would think we were torturing her the way she cries when we change her diaper.
- Being put down: Again she is pretty much obsessed with cuddling and hates being put down for anything.
.. that is really it! Again she is super chill and really such a quiet and happy observer of the world.
I haven't taken her to the doctor since her 2 week appointment but next update will include her actual weight and growth... at her two weeks she was doing great and with the way she eats and is growing out of her newborn clothes (which is breaking my heart) I am positive she is right on track (or whatever that means).
Ps. What do you miss from the first two months? I think I am going to miss her sweet newborn smell which is basically the very best.
