We are 36 weeks pregnant which means it is most definitely time for me to pack my hospital bag! The last thing you want is to show up at the hospital and realize you forgot something important... trust me I had to send Ben home last time when our hospital stay turned into almost a full week stay and I was woefully unprepared. I remember with my first pregnancy scouring the internet for tips and suggestions as I just had no idea what I would need so I thought I would share with you what I am packing this time around!
Nursing Bras - I shared in a previous post my nursing bra favorites and am planning on bringing a couple of the less form fitting ones along. Those first few days are really rough as your milk comes in and so comfort is definitely key! You can find my nursing bra post HERE.
A Good Robe: I have never been a huge fan of hospital gowns and after giving birth when people are coming to visit and your resting and not wanting to look like a hot mess... a good robe is such a life saver! You can find the ones I am bringing HERE and HERE!
Nipple balm: I bought this one HERE but have honestly never tried it so don't necessarily take my word for it (I have heard amazing things though) BUT good nipple balm is important and worth having as you adjust to breast feeding and all the changes that go along with it.
A Good Towel: I'm not sure if you have ever used a hospital bath towel but it is essentially like trying to dry off with a napkin. SO this time around I am bring Serena & Lily bath towels with me because they are seriously the best bath towels but also because they are the softest, fluffiest towels I have ever felt and I fully intend on taking a long spa like shower after giving birth and ending it not with a teensy hospital towel but wrapped in something wonderful and soft and yeah basically get these towels and bring them with you... you won't regret it. Ps. Use code TOWELCRUSH15 to get 15% for the next week at Serena & Lily!
Toiletries: This is kind of a given but make sure you bring shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, face wash, makeup, glasses, contact solution, etc... whatever you use daily bring it with you!
Snacks: (AND a water bottle!) I am bringing a few granola bars, tea, and some honey for two reasons... one in case I need it during labor but two because the hospital food was not the greatest last time so having snacks that I like postpartum was really nice as well as honey because as silly as it sounds I brought tea with me to the hospital so that I could sit and relax, holding my new baby drinking a cup of tea with honey in it.
Comfortable Clothing: I packed some sweatpants, a nursing tank top, and a cardigan to wear home and will probably be living in these essentials for at least the first month postpartum. I found these sweatpants HERE, swear by these nursing tank tops HERE, and am loving this cardigan HERE as a good nursing friendly option! Oh and it doesn't hurt to bring comfortable shoes either, preferably that slip on and off!
Electronics: (and chargers!) This includes a camera (and extra battery), lenses for said camera, phone, and headphones and anything else you might need. I create a playlist on my phone for when I am in labor and use this to help focus and tune out the hospital noise. I am also bringing my iPad this time as well to potentially entertain Jessamyn and just in case we need it.
FOR BABY & BIG SISTER:
Baby Book: I brought our baby book with us so that I could record tiny details and save things such as hospital bracelets right then and there. I was afraid if I didn't the details might blur and I want to be able to look back and remember the small things.
Going Home Outfit: Last time I actually brought the wrong size and it was way to big but I would recommend bringing an outfit (cute bonnet) whatever you want to take the baby home in and maybe in one or two sizes as it is hard to tell what the fit might be like. I am also bringing a swaddle blanket because as much as I love and will forever save the hospital blanket Jessamyn has an actual swaddle blanket is much more effective and great to have.
Lovey: Okay this is probably not a necessity but I am bringing along a lovely and a stuffed friend for baby girl. I didn't do this last time but gave Jessamyn a stuffed friend when we first went home and it is still her favorite to this day... so obviously I had to get this baby something too!
Carseat: They won't let you leave without one!
Gift for Big Sister: I thought it would be sweet for the baby to give Jessamyn a gift so we we got her a big sister mouse which you can find HERE and the baby is going to give it to her at the hospital.
THINGS I DIDN'T BRING:
Underwear: Okay don't judge but I totally preferred using the crazy mesh underwear the hospital gave me at first. It was disposable and just really hassle free and I figure why not use it?!
A Pacifier: The hospital actually gave Jessamyn a pacifier when we were there and I just don't see a reason to have one with us those first few days so I am not going to pack one.
Books: I think last time I had this crazy idea I would be able to read postpartum which between staring constantly at a new baby and being completely exhausted that did not happen... so leaving those at home this time.
Okay so those are the things on my list! If you have any questions OR suggestions on what to bring I would love to hear what is in your hospital bag?
