I remember being pregnant with Jessamyn and literally having a million online wish lists and shopping carts full of baby things. I was convinced we needed everything and more and the nesting instinct definitely didn't help the situation any! I literally filled our house with baby products the first time around BUT since I hung on to most of those things and we are having a second girl I wanted to share some items we didn't have last time that I have made "must haves" this time. Things That I either saw other moms using, heard about online, or just think will be amazing this time around!
- A bassinet: When we had Jessamyn we were in the middle of a giant move and so she slept in the pack n play next to our bed for most of her early days. Now living in a studio apartment there really isn't room for a pack n play and honestly bassinets are so much prettier to look at so obviously I had to have one! There are a lot of different kinds and brands so I would say just search the web and find what works for you! (THIS is the one I ended up going with) We also got a bassinet stand that literally put the new baby at the perfect height for easy access at night and a safe space to nap during the day. I definitely wish I had seen these when Jessamyn was a baby!
Not only that but a lot of brands employ local basket weavers and there are some really amazing initiatives and just beautiful woven baskets out there so if you don't have a bassinet definitely look into getting one!
The Owlet Smart Sock 2 - This was something I had never heard of until fairly recently and think it is a genius idea especially with a second baby! The Owlet Smart Sock 2 is is designed to notify you if your baby’s heart rate or oxygen fall outside the preset zones. As pictured above (and sorry no cute baby foot to show you guys yet but just wait I will definitely update on how using this product goes and I promise there will be cute baby feet involved!) the sock can go on either the left or right foot and has a blue tooth range of up to 100 feet between the smart sock and base station. So basically I am wanting to use this product because it will allow me the peace of mind to chase after Jessamyn during nap time or at night while still being able to keep an eye on how baby number 2 is doing.
This is actually something I have worried about and even asked Ben the other night if he thought we could handle keeping an eye on two babies so for me this product should hopefully provide that extra help and allow to me to be present with both babies no matter what I am doing (in fact the main logo on their website is "Love more worry less".. which is exactly what I want to be able to do. You can find more about (and purchase) the Owlet smart sock 2 HERE.
An Infant Carseat - When we had Jessamyn we went with a convertible carseat which has been amazing as far as her being able to use it from infancy until basically forever BUT made nap transitions hard or going out and having her fall asleep basically the worst. So for baby number 2 we got an infant carseat so that no matter where we go the transition from the car will be easier and nap time interruptions hopefully don't happen quite as often as they did with Jessamyn. There are so many to choose from I am not even going to try to recommend a specific one, I would say just do the research and get what works best for you! For us we went with one that we already had the attachments for for our stroller so it makes things easy!
OKAY so those are my top three essentials! I would love to hear what you think? What you ended up needing differently with your second, and/or what you ended up thinking you would need and didn't?
