As we downsize for the bus I have been more or less panicking, and learning.... about just how attached to things I am. The fact of the matter is the bus will be limited in space and so I can't bring 30 pairs of shoes or all my dresses, I just can't there isn't room. I feel like there are two choices I could make with this... I can choose to try to cram as much stuff as possible into the little space we have or I can choose quality over quantity and be okay with one nice thing vs. 30 maybe cheaper or lower quality items.
I am learning that being minimal does not mean I have to be boring, or sacrifice my style or taste in things. Even saying that sounds silly but I feel like there is this idea that we must live simple and doing so means we can't live well. I think that honestly there has to be a balance between the two and for us the bus is going to be simple but also beautiful and built on quality.
In my search for simplicity I found a couple brands to share with you today. The first being Gigi Pip. I feel like a good hat is something worth having whether you live on a bus or not and I have found mine in the Olivette. This hat is everything wonderful about fall and then some. I will probably wear it every day for the next month and then some. My only lament is that Jessamyn doesn't have a matching one... because seriously that would be the best! Right now you can use code WANDERING to get 15% percent off at Gigi Pip!
The second shop is ELF where this awesome bag and shoes came from. I've been through a lot of bags in my life and have to say this one is really well made and like just the right size for everything I need but no extra space so I am literally forced to remove the clutter! Also these shoes... can I just have a minute for the color. The moment I saw them I knew I needed them which I know is so shallow but seriously if you don't own a pair of blue shoes you are missing out because they make everything that much lovelier and more magical. Right now you can use code ELFWANDER to get 15% off at ELF.
As we move closer towards actually being in the bus I am learning a lot about myself and being both appreciative for what I have but also willing to let go and know that I am still me whether I own all these things or not. I am not sure where I am in this journey but I do know there is something satisfying about owning less but also knowing the things I do own are quality and will last a life time. I use to blow all my money at Target and other shops like that... which there isn't anything wrong with that but now due to our limited bus space and desire to live debt free I have been trying really hard to make wise purchases and rather than buying three pairs of shoes waiting and purchasing one maybe more expensive but higher quality pair. I am not sure what this would look like for you all but for me it has definitely changed the way I shop and I am hoping will help me declutter while at the same time having fun with my style.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this and what has worked for you. I am honestly loving the idea of quality over quantity but is it practical and will it last? I will keep you guys informed!
