SO excited to finally have a second bus update for you! It may not look like much but we have in fact been making a lot of progress! First and foremost last weekend we got the subfloor down... this will be the actual state of the floor up until the end. We are still picking the color/look of the final floor but won't be making any decisions until everything else has come together and we can safely put the flooring in!
This weekend has been all about insulation and framing! We ended up going with sheet insulation primarily because it fits in the space and is cost effective. There were a lot of options out there but for us, right now this was the one that made the most sense. We also started to frame off the back room... only to realize it wasn't quite tall enough for the doors we were putting in... oops. So we had to take everything down and start over but at this moment the back room is framed off!
We initially were going to put two kids rooms into the space over the back wheel wells but after measuring realized that would leave no space between the beds... so Ben is actually out right now looking at bunk beds and trying to decide if we will need to build our own or can just modify some from a furniture store. Even though it isn't the original plan I am kind of excited about this because it means we can create more storage and maybe even a little play space across from the bunks.
So the plan for the rest of the week is to finish framing the back room... get or build bunks and put those in, and then frame the kids room. We are also hoping to fit a small closet back there for hanging clothes and other random items but won't know what that space will look like until after the bunks are in.
We also got our composting toilet and water pump in the mail this week which is super exciting! The toilet is a Nature's Head composting toilet and we are really excited for the freedom it should give us to move about and supposedly they smell better than a normal RV toilet so that will be a plus too!
The trouble with a bus is that we have to build from the back forward... so the present focus is to get the walls and the bunk bed up! Then move forward to the bathroom/shower and start on the cabinets in the kitchen/living room area. RV furniture is incredibly expensive and building our own is actually pretty pricey too so our plan is to repurpose as much of our own furniture as we can. For example we are building a box for our bed frame to slide into and a box with storage for our current couch to just sit in (with the legs removed).
Our current frustration with the bus primarily is just a lack of hours in the week to work on it. We have also been struggling with figuring out how to install a tank for the shower, and have been having a hard time finding reclaimed wood for the interior which is a huge piece of our design so that has been something I am on the hunt for!
If your interested in our design ideas please feel free to follow along on Pinterest. We also have been snapping (this.wandering) quite a bit when we are over at the bus. Also I have been getting so many questions about this bus journey we are on I am going to put together a little Q & A post! If you have any questions PLEASE ask them in the comments below, send them to me in an email, or DM them to me on Instagram I would love to hear your thoughts and/or answer any questions you might have!
Ps. If you have already build a bus and have any advice or insight we will take any tips we can get!
